Ashley carter

Ashley Carter

it was the 19th of November when Ashley Carter visited us and did a presentation on how he contributes at left lion and what kind of jobs he gets up to. he also talked about how he does his job

Evaluation

for unit 31 I had to create a blog which I later on made it into a PowerPoint which I presented in front of my class. where I talked about social action and community media in Nottingham or my local area. I had to do research on how I can possibly take part in social action myself. to prepare for my presentation I read the presentation multiple times to know what I will talk about. I also tried to do queue cards but I knew I would struggle with reading a presenting at the same time.

Overall I feel my PowerPoint wasn't strong because of lack of preparation and lack in confidence but the thing that I did really well was probably the fact that I tried my best to look at my audience. from the start of my presentation I really struggled because I was really not mentally ready but as I kept going I got confident and had a strong finish. I also feel I was very knowledgeable on what I was talking about but I'm not sure if it came across like that.

If I was to do anything differently or do my presentation again I think I would come with more confidence or face the camera because I felt when I was looking at the audience I was put off and I couldn't get my words out properly. I also think I could have added more pictures to my PowerPoint because I looked really dull.

if I was to be honest I don't think I did enough for a distinction because I didn't go into full detail and the presentation wasn't at a distinction standard but I had good information that I did for example the bit when I talked about one of the ambassador of #iwill I showed how well I took time to research.
I was really happy with everything that I used because It was good information but its just the way that I may I have wrote it that didn't come out as I would have liked. I could have tried to get my audience more involved by asking them questions.

feedback
Ronan: Delvin's presentation covered all the key areas of content and he gave good examples of certain topics with a well structured presentation, however at the start he did look a little bit nervous however he grew into it as the powerpoint went on.

George : Delvin's presentation was very straight forward, but informative considering its brief nature. He covered all necessary information on community media and social action, however I believe same points could have been elaborated and rehearsed.

Jamie: Delvin gave a very informative presentation with detailed examples of social media use by community media. He talked well about #iwill giving an example and expanding upon it. He could have rehearsed his presentation and been more confident in his points to improve.

I feel the feedback is fair and right because I agree with most of the positive points but I feel it was kind at part because I felt I wasn't confident as said by Jamie but I I've changed my mind a little bit because of my feedback because I wasn't confident of how I presented it.

community media and left lion

what is community media?

community media is a form of media which is controlled by the community or public for example left lion it shows and talk about what is happening in all around Nottingham in the different communities. Things such as charity events, music events and ect. The good thing about community media its for the people so everything that goes into it its what they people have chosen and what the people want to see.

what is left lion?

Left lion is a magazine/newspaper in Nottingham and if focused on communities the left lion comes in and paper magazine form and online. left lion's goal is to help the people of Nottingham to share what they have to offer by showing their talents like for example music, art, sport and ect. left lion what to show how great Nottingham city is that's why they focus so much on communities.

what make Left lion better than Nottingham post?

the reason that makes Left lion better is because it provides more than just news and it focuses on communities and really show all the good things about Nottingham while on the other had the hand Nottingham post focuses on headlines and what's big in Nottingham and it really shows off what people what are doing in the city of Nottingham like left lion do. The biggest difference between left lion and Nottingham post the way left lion interact with their readers on social media such as facebook and twitter, they always reply and have discussions I find this very amazing because it shows how they care about the people of Nottingham but taking their time to reply to most people.

what is left lion's intentions?

left lion intention is to show that Nottingham is the best city to live in and it does this by showing off all the little things that you wouldn't expect like little gigs in a pub and left lion try to show off every person who is making a name for themselves. left lion make their magazine/newspaper free because that way people are free to pick up things and they can see what kind of things Nottingham has to offer.

world mental health day
In Nottingham the POM (protect our minds) decided to take it to Broad street and did a flash mob to raise awareness on the 10 of October. the flash mob consisted of 25 dancers and it was led  Choreographed by professional dancer Molly May-Gardiner, she led dancers and samba percussionists in what was a five minute dancing frenzy. The grand sum of £180 was raised for Mind charity in just ten minutes. Other local companies involved were The Lofthouse, who gave over their space to allow the group to practice, and Broadway cinema who supplied the sound system on the day.

what I could do?
the first thing I'm thinking of doing is volunteering at a charity shop where I would sale things such as clothes etc but I don't really know how I can get this such thing out there and get people involved in the action. on the other hand I think I could try to get people to give their unwanted clothes to charity.

the other thing I could do is an idea that could get a lot of young people in the community get involved and I was thinking of starting a after score football centre like what some YMCA's have but I don't have them in my area which made this idea a great idea and I was thinking every Friday night all the kids would go to the local centre which doesn't get used anymore an im willing to volunteer and get young people involved and it will really help people to stay out of trouble.

Matthew Otubu

#I will is a national campaign that was lunched in 2013 aims to make social action part of life for as many 10 to 20 year-olds as possible by the year 2020. A key goal of the #iwill campaign is to enable organisations to understand and recognise high quality in youth social action..The prime mister, David Cameron has backed the movement and he had this to say “This campaign is above party politics – it’s about believing in our young people and backing them to do the right thing. We want more young people to have the opportunity to serve others and reap the benefits that this brings." the campaign is made to make a positive change in young people’s lives by impacting their local communities such as after school clubs and etc.

The people involved in the campaign are Dame Julia cleverdon is a British charity worker who served for 16 years as Chief Executive of Business in the Community, one of the Prince's Charities of Charles and Amanda Jordan is a founder of Corporate Citizenship.

Matthew Otubu 19 years old is one of the few young people trying to make an impact in his local city Newcastle his social journey is really wide and very impressive for some one of his age. he has been a Youth Councillor for Newcastle City Council, a Member of Youth Parliament for Newcastle Central, Head Event Organiser at the European Youth Parliament UK and part of the Youth Leadership Team at Citizens UK. I’ve campaigned on education and transport, giving a keynote speech at the House of Commons in 2013, and supporting Make Your Mark. He’s also a big campaigner on healthcare issues, and his been part of the Northern Clinical Senate Assembly for NHS England, and the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I also support charities as Youth Commissioner and Graduate Ambassador for the National Citizen Service, and Children’s Champion for UNICEF UK.

The campaign has had a huge in impact all over the country because there is so many leaders based all over uk and in many local areas and the hard work to put in is showing by the PM and other political leaders taking notice. One a few impacts the campaign has had is bullying as 17 year old Callie Turner on a TV documentary "bullied" with Jordie Marsh on channel 5 and the show went to talk about how she was bullied and how she got over it and they went on to create and anti-bullying team in the school Callie attended.

My opinion on what the #iwill campaign is that I feel its a amazing campaign because anyone can get involved and it really focuses on the young people and this is good because it make life easier for the next generation on people and they don't have to face the same problems and they campaign has a lot financial backing do resources are there if needed.
